Colleges Against Cancer at the University of Minnesota is dedicated to eliminating cancer by spreading awareness and education through volunteer work in the community. Through such activities as cancer education, survivorship, and advocacy programs, all students at the University of Minnesota have the opportunity to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Colleges Against Cancer undertakes a wide variety of activities throughout the year. Our events celebrate survivorship, raise vital funds for cancer research and patient care, and promote cancer education. Members receive the chance to plan fundraising events, educate their peers about cancer, and to promote a healthier University environment through grassroots action. There are also many volunteering opportunities for members at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, which is located just off campus.
In addition to these opportunities provided to members, Colleges Against Cancer also holds many prominent events on the University of Minnesota campus. This includes awareness events for such cancers as Breast, Lung, Testicular and Skin cancer. We organize several athletic fundraisers, such as our Spike Out Skin Cancer volleyball tournament, Protect Your Balls dodgeball tournament, and the Saving Second Base 5K to support Breast Cancer awareness.
Relay for Life, typically occuring in April, is our largest event of the year. In April 2014, we were proud to have engaged 2,000 participants and raised $218,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society's life-saving mission. In the last 10 years, we have raised over $1,500,000 to support our mission!
